Moving Checklist for Dubai: What to Do 4 Weeks Before Your Move

Planning · 5 min read · By GPS Movers · Published 19 September 2026

A calm move starts weeks before moving day. Use this checklist to stay ahead of the tasks that catch most people out.

Four weeks before

  • Check your tenancy contract for the notice period and hand-over requirements
  • Choose your moving date
  • Get quotes from moving companies and confirm what each includes
  • Ask building management about lift booking, move-in and move-out hours
  • Declutter: sell, donate or throw away what you will not need

Two weeks before

  • Book the lift and a loading spot at both buildings
  • Arrange utilities and internet for the new home, and close accounts at the old one
  • If you are renting, make sure your new tenancy is registered
  • Start packing rooms you use least
  • Collect valuables and important documents in one safe place

One week before

  • Finish packing everything except daily essentials
  • Label every box with the room and contents
  • Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer
  • Confirm the date, time and crew size with your mover
  • Pack an essentials box: chargers, toiletries, kettle, bedding, a change of clothes

Moving day

  • Keep valuables, passports and documents with you
  • Walk through each room with the crew leader
  • Check that every item is loaded before the truck leaves
  • Do a final walk-through of the empty home, including cupboards and balcony

After the move

  • Unpack essentials first: bed, kitchen, bathroom
  • Check your items against your list and report any damage quickly
  • Update your address with your bank, employer and delivery apps
